Principal Message

Dear parents, carers and students

Hello and let me introduce myself as the new Principal for Rosebery Middle School for 2016. I am very excited and feel very privileged to have the opportunity to lead Rosebery Middle School, building on the strong foundations of the school since its opening in 2011. I have lived in the Northern Territory for over 25 years working in school leadership roles in secondary schools in Darwin and Palmerston and a number of corporate roles in the Department leading curriculum, assessment and reporting across the system.

Rosebery Middle School caters for around 600 students in Years 7, 8 and 9 from the Palmerston area and accepts enrolments from all the feeder primary schools in Palmerston. We strive to ensure all students meet their potential through the teaching and learning programs which are based on the newly endorsed Australian Curriculum.

We offer a range of diverse programs which provide our students with the opportunity to excel in the academic, performing and visual arts, ICT, cultural, social and sporting areas. Some of these programs include the Sports Excellence program, Languages (Japanese and Indonesian), the Tech Crew, Certificate II in Music and other Vocational Courses, as well as strong sporting representation. Our Student Representative Council (SRC) take a student leadership role across the school, organising assemblies, fundraising activities and supporting other worthwhile causes. Our state of the art facilities provide world class teaching and learning spaces and specialist areas for students to learn, create and perform.

We strongly believe in working with our school community to improve outcomes for our middle years students and have developed strong partnerships to enable this. We are pleased to have partnerships with the NT Music School and Darwin Languages School, the ConnectED Board, Mission Australia, Clontarf Academy, Palmerston Girls Academy, Bendigo Bank, the US Marines, Smith Family, Food Bank NT and the Northern Territory Institute of Sports (NTIS). Our partnerships and transition programs with our feeder primary schools and Palmerston Senior College help to deliver a seamless educational journey for our students.

Rosebery Middle School provides a supportive environment for students with special needs co-ordinated by our Pathways unit which includes our dedicated Spectrum Disorder Unit for middle year’s students within our enrolment area.

I look forward to meeting with you soon and recognise that parents/caregivers are a crucial part of the team that supports our students as they strive for success. I value your opinion and involvement in the Rosebery Middle School community and welcome your feedback, to ensure that Rosebery Middle School builds on its strong foundations to deliver high quality education to middle years students in the Palmerston area.
